TV appeal leads to arrest of man wanted for Sussex burglaries

A MAN wanted for interview about a string of burglaries in Sussex and nationwide has been arrested within hours of a BBC Crimewatch appeal showing his photograph.

Yesterday evening (Thursday, January 26) BBC Crimewatch showed the photograph of 48-year-old Barrie Gordon Williamson.

A caller to the programme gave information about him, as a result of which Lancashire officers went to an address in Blackpool shortly before midnight and arrested Williamson.

Sussex officers want to interview Williamson about at least seven burglaries in Worthing, Lancing, Brighton, Hove, Seaford and Eastbourne, and several others which may be linked to him in the same areas, all in the last three months of 2011.

Officers in Dorset, Kent, Norfolk, Nottinghamshire and Lancashire also want to talk to him about burglaries in those areas.

Williamson is also wanted for recall to prison having broken the conditions of his release licence.

A Sussex Police spokesman said; “We thank Crimewatch for their assistance and the member of the public for that call.”
