UPDATE COUNTY NEWS: Flats 'made safe' after 'potentially explosive' items are found

Residents have now been allowed home after the discovery of 'hazardous and potentially explosive' items saw a 12 storey block of flats in central Brighton evacuated this morning, police confirmed.

Officers arrived at Highleigh on Grove Hill at 7.20am and the flat has been made safe, police said.

Detective Superintendent Carwyn Hughes said: "Thank you to everyone for their patience."
