Update on West Chiltington murder

A 66-year-old man remains in Worthing Hospital with non life threatening injuries after he was arrested yesterday (Thursday, June 9) on suspicion of murdering his 64-year-old wife.

Although the body of the woman has not been formally identified, it is believed to be that of Mrs Linda Allen.

The cause of death has not been established and a post mortem is due to be carried out tomorrow (Saturday, June 11).

Detective inspector Trevor Bowles, of Sussex Police’s Major Crime Branch, said: “We are not looking for anyone else in connection with this tragic incident.

“The property at Nyetimber Lane, West Chiltington, remains a scene of crime and the cause of Mrs Allen’s death is still not known.

“Officers are conducting house to house enquiries in the area and I would urge any local residents who may have information that could help police with the investigation to please call 0845 60 70 999 quoting Operation Juniper.”

The 66-year-old man, who is believed to be the husband of Mrs Allen, called the emergency services from the property at around 2.40pm yesterday (Thursday 9 June).

When officers arrived they found the man in the hallway of the six bedroom property with knife injuries to his legs.

The body of Mrs Allen was found lying in a bed upstairs.
