UPDATED: 17-year-old arrested following assault near West Worthing railway station

A 17-year-old boy from Worthing has been arrested following an assault earlier this morning (October 31) near West Worthing railway station.

Police were called at 8.35am to Pilgrims Walk near to West Worthing railway station where ‘two men were reported fighting’, Sussex Police said.

A spokeswoman from Sussex Police said the 17-year-old boy was arrested ‘on suspicion of affray’ and ‘remains in custody at the time’.

She added: “There are no details on injury at the moment but it does appear that neither people were seriously hurt.”

British Transport Police (BTP) were called to the assault earlier this morning and a spokesman confirmed the assault had ‘made an impact on the railway’.

This was confirmed after a man called the Worthing Herald to say he had been sat on a train at West Worthing station for ‘ages’ and that an announcement had been made on the train alerting passengers that there had been an incident.
