At about 10.53pm on yesterday police were made aware of an alarm which activated at Tesco Express in Broadwater Street West in Worthing.
A spokesperson for Sussex Police said ‘a member of staff reported being held at knifepoint by a man demanding cash.’
However, the suspect fled empty handed and no one was injured, police said.
Officers attended and shortly afterwards, a 24-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested nearby on suspicion of robbery. He remains in police custody and is assisting officers with enquiries, according to Sussex Police.
