Woman and young child injured in assault

POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a 23-year-old woman in Southwick on Wednesday, July 24.

The woman, who was with a young child, was trying to obtain her phone from a man who was known to her, when she was kicked and punched in the head. The child received a minor injury as a result of being caught up in the attack.

PC David Slade, of Worthing Response Investigation, said: “I am appealing for anyone who was in the area between 11.40pm and 11.55pm and witnessed the assault and have not yet spoken to officers to please get in touch. You can call 101 quoting serial 2065 of 24/7 or alternatively leave an anonymous message with the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

A 26-year-old man from Lancing, was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage and has been bailed until September 7 pending further enquiries.
