Worthing armed robbery: man named and charged

A man has been named and charged by police following an armed robbery in Worthing.

Sussex Police said officers were called to Worthing News in Rowlands Road at 6.10pm on Thursday (December 3) following a report that staff had been threatened by two men with a firearm. Four bottles of vodka and around £400 cash was reportedly taken from the till, police said.

One victim was assaulted and suffered a minor injury.

Danny Cobbold, 32, of Winterbourne Close in Worthing has been charged with robbery, assault thereby causing actual bodily harm and possession of an imitation firearm.

He was due to appear at Crawley Magistrates’ Court today (December 8).

Enquiries continue to identify a second suspect described as a tall man with dark brown eyes, wearing a face mask and also wearing all black.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Ricks said: “Our investigation into this matter is progressing and we continue to appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

“We urge anyone who was in the area around the time of this incident and has CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage to get in touch straightaway.

“Please report information to us online or via 101, quoting Operation Everdon.”
