Worthing boy arrested on suspicion of sexual assault

A 16-year-old boy from Worthing has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault following an incident in Brighton, police have said.

Police said a 23-year-old woman was sexually assaulted on the Lower Esplanade in Brighton on Tuesday July 26.

Between midnight and 3am on a group of men approached a woman near to Coalition nightclub, according to police.

The victim was with other women before she separated from the group and was sexually assaulted by one of the men, police said.

Her friend, a 22-year-old woman, has also reported being sexually assaulted, police added.

Police said the 16-year-old boy has been bailed until October 17 while investigations continue.

Detective Sergeant Gary Tattersall said: “We are appealing to anyone in the area who saw what happened or has any information which could help us with our investigation to come forward.
