Cyclist trapped after collision

FERRING level crossing was closed for half an hour on Saturday as emergency services worked to free a cyclist from underneath a car.

The 47-year-old man from Littlehampton had been cycling in Ferring Street when he was hit by a blue Chevrolet Spark at 12.55pm.

Crews from Worthing Fire Station attended as well as the air ambulance, police and paramedics.

The cyclist was freed by West Sussex Fire and Rescue service and suffered cuts and bruises.

He was taken to Worthing Hospital to be checked over.

The air ambulance was initially called but was not needed. The driver involved, a 76-year-old man from Ferring, was unhurt.

Mike Brampton helped the rescue effort. He said: “It was chaos down there.”
