Great-grandfather Don, from Worthing, was killed following an altercation with another motorist in an alleged road rage incident in July.

Up to 100 cyclists from clubs across Sussex turned out at Goring Gap at 9am on Sunday to remember Don, who was a member of Worthing Excelsior Cycling Club for more than 50 years.

Robert Downham, Worthing Excelsior president, said: “It was very positive. The weather made it a good event and the location was a lovely spot as well. It was a celebration rather than a memorial ride. The funeral covered the sad aspect of it. This was a celebration of Don’s love of cycling.

People are asking if it can become an annual event but it’s something we need to go away and decide as a club.”

Don’s son, Andrew, participated in the ride which ended at Wiston Village Hall where members of Sussex Nomads joined. The event raised more than £700 for Help for Heroes.
