Developer sets out plans for Lloyds tower

The nine storey building, in The Causeway, was snapped up by London firm Urbgroup, which plans to convert it into around 40 flats.

Managing director Rupert Clarke said: “We want to give this well-known tower block a new lease of life after it being out of use since 2009.

“We will be creating much needed new homes and providing a real boost to the local area, particularly for local businesses, which are set to benefit from increased trade.

“We are expecting very strong interest in the new flats, especially as the building commands stunning views of the coast, the South Downs and across Worthing.

“The block also enjoys excellent transport links, with the local train station just a stone’s throw away.”

Following changes to planning regulations, Worthing Borough Council has confirmed that prior approval is not required to convert the Lloyds Bank tower into new homes.

Urbgroup is now seeking the go ahead on proposals to improve the building’s windows and upgrade its main entrance area.

The project is expected to be completed by autumn 2015, with estate agents Michael Jones set to handle sales of the flats, which will be ideal for first-time buyers.
