Passers-by may have feared a large-scale blaze was in progress in central Worthing yesterday (Sunday, January 13), after seeing several fire engines race into town.
But, thankfully, there was not a major incident happening, just a training exercise for firefighters from across West Sussex.
Crews were “called” to the Connaught Theatre in Union Place, Worthing, on Sunday morning, to reports of fire there. They were also told there were likely people trapped inside.
The aim of the exercise was to give the crews experience in tackling a blaze in a building containing a large population of people.
