Sarah Honess, a Worthing Hospital doctor, will take part in the gruelling Challenge Henley ironman event on September 8.

The event begins with a 3.8-kilometre swim, followed by a 180-kilometre cycle, ending with a 42-kilometre run.

Any money raised will go towards the paediatric emergency department at the hospital, and Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice.

Dr Honess said the event would be “the biggest physical challenge” of her life.

She said: “There are times when I definitely wonder whether I have bitten off more than I can chew.

“But, then, that’s what makes it a challenge, and what makes it exciting.

“Mentally and physically I will be pushed further than I have ever been.

“The truth is, at this point, I really don’t know if I have it in me.”
