Mrs Donaldson, author of The Gruffalo, Stick Man and Room on the Broom, and a former Children’s Laureate, went along with her husband Malcolm to entertain the children with stories, songs and poems.

She later signed copies of her books, including her new picture book The Detective Dog. Excited children and adults queued for up to two hours to meet the author and ask questions about her much-loved characters.
