A WORTHING sports club is celebrating a “dream” that has been four years in the making after reaching its fund-raising goal of £50,000.
Chippingdale Cricket Club, which plays at the Rotary Ground, in Hillbarn Lane, can now build a two-bay cricket net training facility at the ground, the construction of which will begin this autumn and be completed by the beginning of the 2012 season.
The club reached the total by raising £18,550, and with the help of a £16,000 grant from Viridor Credits Environmental Company, through the Landfill Communities Fund, a £10,000 grant from Sport England, and donations from other groups.
Paul Baker, club chairman, pictured, said: “The realisation of having our own nets has been a four-year dream in the making, where a lot of hard work and fund-raising have taken place in order to achieve our goal.
“We are really grateful to everyone who supported us from a national, regional and local perspective.”
Mr Baker said the club was committed to improving its playing, training and changing facilities, having secured a 15-year tenure of use from Worthing Borough Council.
