Drunken Guestling man broke taxi marshal’s nose

Marshals Kevin Bilsby and Kevin Glover were both attacked by Andrew Hassan during the early hours of March 20.

Hassan, 24, of Jenners Lane, Guestling, pleaded guilty to charges of assault causing actual bodily harm and assault by beating on May 6.

Sentencing was adjourned until last Thursday after magistrates called for probation service reports.

Jeremy King, prosecuting, said: “A fight broke out at 4.30am on March 20.

“Mr Hassan was refused a taxi due to his behaviour and the fact he was drunk and then began to assault two taxi marshals.

“He hit Kevin Glover causing damage to his eye and punched Kevin Bilsby in the face causing him a bloody nose.

“He was treated at the Conquest Hospital where it was later confirmed that his nose was broken.

“Mr Hassan told police that he had been an idiot.

“In 2004 he was sentenced to nine months in a young offenders institution for ABH.”

Ronan Crummy, defending, said: “He is the first to admit that his behaviour was disgraceful. He has brought shame on himself and his family.

“He is hard working and has held down a steady job since the age of 16.

“He is fit, willing and able to do unpaid work.”

Magistrates sentenced Hassan to 150 hours of unpaid work.

He was also ordered to pay £500 compensation to Mr Bilsby and £100 to Mr Glover.
