A GAME company that launched three years ago has smashed its latest Kickstarter campaign target.
Black Box Games has already seen success with its line of Lords of War products, including award nominations and international distribution.
Now, entrepreneurs Nick Street, from Worthing, and Martin Vaux, from Lewes, have achieved their latest Kickstarter campaign fund in three days, smashing through the company’s initial £8,000 target and climbing all the way up to £22,845, care of 559 Kickstarter supporters.
Martin, creative director, said: “We could never have dreamed that our games might end up being played everywhere from Tokyo to New York City.
“It has been hard work getting it there but our fans are amazing. Without them, we would be nothing.”
The duo’s games have been translated into German, Polish and Czech, and they are now selling in more than 20 countries worldwide.
Black Box Games has won the coveted UK Games Expo Award for Best Strategic Card Game and has been nominated for the 2015 Imagination Gaming Awards and 2015 UK Games Expo Awards.
Mr Street, operations director, said: “We have been blown away by the positivity coming out of the gaming community for Lords of War. There is no way we could have imagined our recent Kickstarter campaign raising over £22,845. It really is incredible.”
Alongside continuing to grow the Lords of War tournament scene, Black Box Games is looking to expand its suite of products. They will next be seen at the 2015 UK Games Expo at the NEC Arena Park in Birmingham from May 29 to 31.
Games retailer Gary Cambell-Smith, of KD Games in Shoreham, has supported the duo since the beginning.
“Run in the evenings and weekends, Black Box Games has seen an international scene grow up around its card games, including gaming club tournaments, fan-built website statistics tools and even three academic papers,” he said. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a game come out of the UK do something like that.”
