Durrington High to lead new school

The Department of Education announced on Thursday that the school, which will be built on the Northbrook College site, will be an academy in line with West Sussex county Council policy.

Durrington will be the lead school and will work with Northbrook College, The Livingstone Foundation Trust and Brighton University.

The new school will be a separate school in its own right but will be underpinned by the same vision and values as Durrington High.

Head teacher Sue Marooney, who will lead both schools, said: “The opening of a new secondary school is a rare opportunity and we were delighted to be informed that Durrington High School, as part of the Durrington Multi Academy Trust, has been selected as the new sponsor, to set up and lead the new school.

“It is unusual for a sponsor to be already based locally in a community and we see this as recognition of our sustained track record of success. “I see this as endorsement of the growing reputation of our community.

“This significant and exciting project will bring further investment and opportunities into Worthing which is thriving with many new housing and business developments taking place.

“We are on the cusp of a new era for education in Worthing, with the potential changes to age of transfer and a new secondary school in our town.”
