She said: “I’d always been on the bigger side, even before having children, and with each pregnancy I put on more weight and struggled to lose it again.”

Towards the end of her third pregnancy, Giorgina developed pre-eclampsia and after an emergency caesarian, she was taken to intensive care.

“I felt so guilty,” she said.

Her baby suffered a collapsed lung and was taken to the special care baby unit, where he was monitored for nine days. He made a full recovery and is now 15 months old and a picture of health.

Her illness was the wake-up call she needed to lose weight and Giorgina discovered Slimming World was recommended by the Royal College of Midwives as the plan was safe and healthy for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.

“Going to my first session was very daunting, but I needn’t have worried. Everyone was so friendly and supportive and I was amazed to discover that I could eat all my favourite foods and still lose weight,” she said.

Eight months later, Giorgina is six stone lighter, having dropped five dress sizes, from 16st 5lb to 10st 5lb.

She said: “Friends I hadn’t seen in a while didn’t recognise me and sometimes I don’t even recognise myself.

“I know I couldn’t have done it without the help and support of my group, husband and family.”

It was these huge changes to her life that inspired Giorgina to train to become a Slimming World consultant and help others change their lives.
