PAST and present members of 2nd Durrington Sea Scouts celebrated the group’s 50th birthday on Saturday.
The Scout hut in Pond Lane held two parties – one for youngsters who currently attend Scouts and an evening celebration for former members.
Claire Ridley, assistant cub Scout leader and member of the organising committee, said: “It was a really fantastic, memorable day, everyone was in high spirits.
“In the daytime we asked every member of 2nd Durrington Sea Scouts to get together for a commemorative photograph, and then the mayor watered an oak tree we had planted in the grounds of the Scout hut.”
Each Scout was given a 50th anniversary badge to wear on their uniform for the next year.
In the evening, former Scouts were invited back to the scout hut for a party.
Claire added: “We had a great turn-out with everyone bringing pictures of when they were Scouts, and reminiscing about the activities they got up to and the camps they went on.”
In the run-up to the celebration day, the group heard from the very first Cub who joined and the people who built the Scout headquarters in 1961, when the group was formed.
