Durrington youth award nominees wanted

TIME is running out for people to nominate candidates for a youth achievement award as part of this year's Durrington Festival.

The winners of the Durrington Community Youth Achievement Award will be announced at the festival on June 9, but the deadline for nominations is next Sunday, May 27.

For the first time in the festival's 16-year history, children under 18 will be recognised for their help within the Durrington community during the past 12 months.

The winners of the three categories, under eights, nine to 14 and 15 to 18, will be presented with the award at the Village Fayre at the Pond Lane recreation ground on June 9.

Festival committee member, Lisa Hector, said: "The young people of Durrington have had a less than positive reputation over the years and we are seeking to redress the balance by giving people the opportunity to highlight the achievements of some of the younger elements of the community."

Nomination forms can be obtained from Durrington Library, New Life Church coffee shop, Northbrook Barn Community Centre, Durrington Community Centre, Hawthorns First School and the reception of Lloyds TSB Registrars in Yeoman Road.

Votes can also be cast on-line at www.durringtonfestival.org.uk

The finalists will be announced on May 31 in the Herald.

Readers will then be able to vote for the winners.
