East Preston summer show and dog show winners

The East Preston and Kingston Horticultural Society hosted its annual summer show at the Conservative Hall, Sea Road, East Preston, on Saturday.

As part of the festivities, it invited Littlehampton Dog Training Club to hold its fun dog show at the nearby Warren Recreation Ground.

Show secretary Primrose Buckley said: “It was a lovely, happy day for everyone. The judges were impressed with the exhibits and there were a lot of people around, both at the flower show and the dog show outside.”

Colin Crane picked up a haul of trophies, winning prizes for his sweet peas and fuchsias, as well as the certificate for the best flower exhibit.

Summer show winners were:-

Hanson Cup for vegetables, Patrick Sims; Silver Challenge Bowl for flowers, Amanda O’Shea; Children’s Cup, Louis Mackenzie; Silver Salver for mixed produce, Christina Goodwyn; Roy Brown Memorial Shield for sweet peas, Colin Crane; David Mackenzie Thorowgood Memorial Cup for sweet peas, Colin Crane; Beloe Cup for dahlias, Sarah Hill; John Rankin Dahlia Cup, for East Preston and Kingston villagers, Brenda Davis; Cactus Cup, Jane Lines; Floral Vase for flower arranging, Coral Cook; Behar Cup for floral art, Margaret Moores.

Jenkins Cup for fuchsias, Colin Crane; Fuchsia Society Spoon for best fuchsia in show, Sarah Hill; RHS Banksian Medal for most prize money in flower and vegetable classes, Colin Crane; Howard Challenge Cup for man with the most points, Patrick Sims; Ladies’ Challenge Cup for woman with the most points, Diana Buckley; Cookery Goblet, Diana Buckley; Doris Jenkins Cup for chutney, Margaret Moores; Derek Silk Photography Bowl, Lionel Samwell.

Worshipful Company of Gardeners’ certificates, best flower exhibit, Colin Crane; best fruit, Primrose Buckley; best vegetable, Patrick Sims; best floral arrangement, Margaret Moores.
