East Preston’s first golf champion

BOB Sadler has been crowned as East Preston’s first golf champion, but the real winner from the tournament is the village festival.

The Oddballs Golf Society held the East Preston Golf Championship at Chichester Golf Course, with 36 players of all standards battling against a fierce wind and persistent rain last Tuesday.

Bob won the 18-holl Stableford competition for the Alec Price trophy with 31 points, just one ahead of Graham Smith. Malcolm Galloway finishing third and Jane Quinn took the prize for the leading lady golfer.

That evening a dinner, auction and bumper raffle were held at the Angmering-on-Sea Lawn Tennis Club, with proceeds going to festival funds. Generous donations by village businesses of dining and shopping vouchers, beauty treatments, golf lessons and even an ironing voucher saw the event raise an impressive £1,285, which was presented to festival chairman Paul Amoo by tournament organisers Danny Shah and Robert White.
