SCHOOLCHILDREN released 60 balloons to mark the start of their learning about the Queen’s diamond jubilee.
A total of 166 pupils from years three and four at Vale First and Middle School in Vale Avenue, Findon Valley, took part and, as part of their Super 60 topic, will spend the next five weeks learning all about the 1950s and the Queen’s reign.
Student teacher Dani Andrew said each balloon had a card attached to it with the school’s contact details on, and the idea was for the people who found them to get in touch and let the children know how far they had travelled. Mrs Andrew said: “The same night we released them, a man in Burton-on-Trent’s dog called Stomper found one, and got in touch to let us know. ”
Year-four pupil William Calvert, nine, said: “I was really, really surprised at how early a balloon was found – I was literally speechless.”
