AN ELDERLY couple have been conned out of more than £1,000 after being targeted by suspected bogus callers.
The suspects knocked on their door in Frobisher Way, in Goring, during the last week of January and asked if they required any work to be done.
The couple agreed to allow them to clear some moss from their roof.
The men returned the next day and cleaned the moss from the roof but after the work was completed, the victim found the guttering was blocked with moss and a set of ladders had been stolen.
The couple, both in their 80s, paid the workers £1,300 but had no paperwork or documentation.
PC Sharon Moore said: “This couple have given the money over before being satisfied with the work and it seems they may been targeted because of their age. Make sure you always get documentation and paperwork whenever any kind of work has been agreed and check the identification of anyone who knocks on your door out of the blue.
“Anyone who is genuine will be happy to give you their details. If you are not convinced the person is genuine or do not feel comfortable about the situation, never hand over any money and report it to police on 101 or trading standards.
“We are asking for anyone who saw these men in the area during the last week of January is asked to contact police on 101 quoting serial 0365 of 7/2.”
