An elderly woman has been treated for concussion, cuts and bruising after being knocked unconscious by a hit-and-run cyclist on Tuesday.

The woman was walking in the subway system in Chapel Road just after 5pm when she was hit by the bicycle.

The cyclist did not stop.

The woman was taken to Worthing Hospital where she was treated for concussion and cuts and bruising.

PC Robin Elshof from Sussex Police’s Road Policing Unit said: “There’s no way that the rider didn’t know that they had hit the woman and their action in just riding off and leaving her lying unconscious on the ground is quite callous.

“Unfortunately, because she was knocked out, she has no recollection of the incident at all, so we’re really keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, who was in the area at the time and saw the cyclist using the subway or who has any information at all about the incident to give us a call on 101 quoting serial 1068 of 15/10.

“I would hope that the cyclist might well have some pang of conscience and come forward.”
