Brad Dickinson, 32, who used to attend St Andrew’s High School and now lives in Dublin, will cycle 1,600km from London to Nice, to raise money for the Worthing branch of the Alzheimer’s Society.

Brad said: “There are all sorts of emotions going on a trip like this. Some people like to cycle at the front but I like to chat to people and hear their stories.”

He said he had been doing around 90 miles of cycling each weekend and that it could be hard getting up early and battling the wind and rain.

Brad’s parents, Rosalind, 66, and Paul, 57, of Burnside Crescent, Sompting, said: “His nan had Alzheimer’s when he was a teenager and he knows what affect looking after someone with the illness can have on a family.”

Since Brad’s nan, Eileen Speck, died, his mum has helped at the Alzheimer’s Society local branch in Worthing.

Brad raised £500 on each of his two previous cycling fundraising events, cycling from London to Paris, and then London to Geneva, and is hoping to raise as much as possible this time around.
