Products invented and marketed by the pupils, from Years Seven to 11, will be sold at the school and local charity shops. All profits will be split three ways, with cash reinvested in the business, donated to charities and used to pay for trips for students.

Youngsters have completed the first range of prototypes including acrylic dominoes, desk sculptures and clocks. Boffins have even developed a house plant moisture sensor which tells its owner when it needs to be watered.

Educational

Design and technology teacher Howard Stuttard explained how different subjects were linked to build a successful educational and money-spinning venture.

'Every member of Tehk Biz is an equal and valued player in the organisation. All the design and manufacturing of the business s products have been completely generated by the members.

'The project depends upon good cross-curricular links throughout the college. The business side of the venture is reliant upon the work by business studies and maths students whereas the designing and manufacturing side is mainly carried out by technology students from electronics to graphic design.

He added: 'These products are now ready to run in full production. Once the business has produced its first set of products the design team will be prototyping brand new products to expand the organisation s repertoire.

Future designs include a 3D puzzle and decorative mobile.
