This sulky weather continues to frustrate most farmers. Have you ever seen so many (big) slugs? Trying to get straw fit for baling is a nightmare.

It usually takes a day or so in drying conditions, but it just sits there this year and will not dry. We are at least getting on with our re-seeding programme, and about a hundred acres should be in by the time you read this.

Where we attempted to get going, with no success five days ago, the few seeds drilled are about an inch and a half tall, showing that for grass seed at least, the conditions are superb. It really has been an awful August though, and we can only hope that September is going to start making up for it.

We yarded the in-calf heifers this weekend so they can get used to cubicle housing before they calve down. It also allows them to get used to concrete yards, and the general activities of the working day.
