The winners of the Best Kept Garden competition in Haywards Heath have been announced.

The Haywards Heath In Bloom Tea Party was at the town hall to celebrate the residents, community groups, allotment holders and businesses who help make the area beautiful.

The annual awards look at design, planting, colour and plants that encourage wildlife.

Councillor Sandy Ellis, chair of Haywards Heath In Bloom, said: “It is also a great way to show our appreciation and admiration to our fantastic Grounds Staff who maintain the town’s green spaces to award winning status, including Muster Green.”

Mrs Ellis said the event this year paid tribute to the landscaped spaces provided by the Princess Royal Hospital, where many areas are cared for by volunteers.

She said: “The NHS Grounds Staff have created such pleasant, peaceful places for patients, staff and visitors alike, so it was wonderful to present them with a special award.”

She continued: “Our residents and businesses have made such an impact on our town’s entry to South and South East IN BLOOM 2022. The judges were wowed by the entries, which sparkled with colour, design and creativity and I would personally like to thank all of our contestants.”

Town mayor Howard Mundin also attended the event.

The winners this year are: Mr and Mrs R Ekins (Best Kept Garden), Warren Humphrey (Best Allotments for America Lane), Elaine West (Best Allotment for Oathall Avenue), Mel Cook (Best Allotment for Summerhill Lane), Colin Gurr (Best Allotment for Vale Road), Paul Masson Funeral (Best Business) and Mayflower Court (Best Community Garden award presented to Elizabeth Hanson).
