Urban wildlife project gets the go-ahead

FUNDING has been secured for a major new urban wildlife project in Worthing.

The Sussex Wildlife Trust has received a grant of £55,600 from the Heritage Lottery fund, which it is using to run the two-year Wild About Worthing initiative.

Local people, particularly those aged 12-25 years old, will learn about wildlife and conservation through a series of activities and programs.

Janyis Watson, head of conservation at Sussex Wildlife Trust, said: “We know there is real enthusiasm amongst young people for nature and their environment and with the funding we will be able to satisfy demand for a Youth Ranger programme in Worthing.”

The youth rangers, for 16-25 year-olds, will be able to improve the local surroundings while they are educated on conservation.

A similar group, the wildlife rangers for 12 to 16-year-olds, will run conservation activities for secondary school children in the holidays and at weekends. Each programme can accommodate up to 75 people.
