Councillor Mike Mendoza chose Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice as his charity during his year in office, and raised more than £5,500 for the good cause.

Speaking at his final meeting as chairman, Mr Mendoza said: “Sadly, due to unforeseen circumstances, much of the charity work I wanted to do didn’t happen, but I am delighted to say that a good sum of money has been raised for the charity.”

Chestnut Tree House area fundraiser Caroline Quigley-Jones thanked Mr Mendoza for donating such a large sum of money.

“You have created a lot of awareness for us in Shoreham,” she said.
