‘Exciting times’ for mod-rock brothers

Brothers Steve ‘T’ Standing and John ‘Sherb’ Standing have recruited a manager and recorded and released a debut EP since last summer’s tournament.

They are now on the lookout for musicians to join their live band to enable them to play some high-profile local shows in the summer, including a performance at the recently-announced Wild Life Festival at Shoreham Airport.

Shake Up The System, the lead single from their Standing in the Shadows EP, has already notched up thousands of YouTube views since its release on January 2.

Steve, of Durrington Gardens, Durrington, said: “It’s very exciting times. I feel like a rock and roll star from this little seaside town of Worthing. It’s happy times.

“We’re grounded. We do know the business we are going into, how competitive it is. With the response to the previous single it’s all taken a step up.

“I want to go into HMV and see my record in the shop. It’s not about the millions of pounds it’s about the recognition for all the hard work over the years.

John, of Shelley Road, Worthing, added: “We are like the Gallaghers of Worthing. We’re working lads from the council end of the road.

“If you’ve got a dream just follow it.”

In the last few weeks, the brothers have seen their fanbase quadruple.

The band has received airplay on a host of independent radio stations.

On Tuesday, the band filmed a performance on Latest TV.

The show, which sees Steve perform acoustic versions of Shake Up The System and a first performance of London Girl, is due to air in four weeks’ time.

The brothers share manager Steve Parter with indie/pop band ‘The Lost Boys’. The Southampton-based band have supported Paul Weller numerous times and recorded in the ‘Modfather’s’ studio.

Steve said: “Everywhere we go the response has been beyond fantastic. The mod thing is back in a big way. Everyone likes the mod look and the mod ethos.

“The aim is to get a publication deal and get the band on the road.”
