Extension to NSL on-street parking deal ‘not yet agreed’

While off-street providers NCP will be given the boot in April, the council’s contract with West Sussex County Council, for the provision of on-street enforcement, has not been resolved.

Worthing Borough Council wants money collected from fines in the town to be invested back into the area, while the current contract means it can be spent elsewhere.

Council leader Paul Yallop said informal meetings had taken place, and any decision would have to be ratified by the joint strategic committee.

He said: “I am keen Worthing gets a better deal from West Sussex.

“We either walk away, or remain at the table, and try to find a way through together.

“I thought the latter was better, rather than throwing our toys out of the pram.”

Mr Yallop said that as the roads and parking enforcement was the responsibility of the county council, Worthing Borough Council could not fully take control of enforcement.

This is contrary to the NCP contract, in which the council owns the car parks.
