West Sussex County Council has created ten winter walks mapped and digitally available for residents. Each walk has a storyteller who gives a personal insight into the walk and their experience of it.

The walks went live in November and in that first month were downloaded 280 times and viewed 5,316 times.

Louise Goldsmith, leader at WSCC, said: “We have such beautiful countryside in West Sussex – we really are lucky.

“Christmas is a busy time for everyone, but if you want to clear the cobwebs and walk off some of those extra calories then consider downloading one or some of the walks and discovering what is on your doorstep.

“Take friends and family who are visiting and enjoy a brisk, bracing walk across West Sussex.”

The ten walks are all of different lengths and difficulties.

They can be printed for free as a PDF or downloaded with the iFootpath app, which gives a smarter walking experience with live GPS powered maps that show your progress as you walk, and costs £1.49 to download to a smartphone.

The West Sussex Weekends website launched in the summer as part of the Beautiful Outdoors campaign, to help boost tourism in West Sussex and to support the local economy.

The campaign also has a local focus and aims to encourage residents to discover the West Sussex countryside on their doorstep and further afield.
