Farmers’ market could give street’s traders a boost

BUSINESS owners in Goring Road have teamed up to organise a farmers’ market to attract visitors to their shops.

Locally-produced food and drink, as well as other items, will be sold at the market, which has the support of councillors.

One of the organisers, Debbie Scully, from Thy Will be Done, said: “We wanted to support the new farmers market as we think it will be great for the street and for the wider community.”

Worthing West county councillor Paul High, supporting the venture alongside local borough councillors, Worthing mayor Vic Walker and borough leader Paul Yallop, said the market would be a great opportunity for businesses.

He said: “I am delighted to help this group of businesses to make this a reality.

“It will give local producers a great opportunity and I imagine that many local people will want to support it.”

The organisers are working closely with both West Sussex and Worthing Borough councils to get the final permissions in place and they hope to announce the first date shortly.

Those interested in taking part in the market are asked to drop a business card into the Mans Shop, 54 Goring Road. The market follows a similar successful monthly venture, held in Shoreham.
