Frank and Eva Grout, 87 and 81, of Ferring Street, Ferring, met at The Bull pub in Goring 64 years ago on Eva’s 17th birthday. Frank was playing with a piece of string at the time when Eva’s mum noticed and told him if he wanted to know about knots he should speak with her daughter, as she was a Girl Guide.

Eva said: “I think give and take and sharing are our secret.”

Their daughter, Veronica Bouabane, 43, of Raleigh Crescent, said: “I think it’s amazing really. Not many people get to 60 years. It’s lovely and I hope they can spend a lot longer together.”

The couple were originally married on Eva’s 21st birthday – Saturday, June 6 – just days after the Queen’s coronation.

Eva said on Saturay, the couple had a similar service to their original wedding and she walked out to the hymn ‘O Perfect Love’.

Their three children, Veronica, Anthony and Stanley were the witnesses at the ceremony.

There was a reception in the church centre afterwards.
