Fire service wants West Sussex cars for training

THOSE thinking about scrapping a car are being urged to donate it to West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (WSFRS).

WSFRS is asking people to donate scrap cars to allow firefighters to hone their road traffic collision rescue skills.

A number of fire stations across the county are in need of extra cars for crews to train on and practise the latest preparation, stabilisation and cutting techniques they need to rescue casualties from life-threatening car crashes.

Richard Davy, a West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service deputy district commander, said: “Attending road traffic collisions and being able to quickly and safely rescue people trapped in their cars is a core part of a firefighter’s role and undoubtedly saves many lives each year.

“Getting practical ‘hands-on’ training is obviously a vital part of maintaining and developing those rescue skills.”

For anyone wishing to donate their car, Autocovery will pick it up free of charge, process the vehicle log book and deliver the car to the fire station.
