Fire stunts, falconry and a dog display team at Ashington Festival
A fire stunt show and a dog display team will star in this year's Ashington Festival.
The Ridgeside Lurcher display will perform in the arena, as will the Joseph Peace Fire Stunt Spectacular - a show that blends daredevil stunts and comedy.
The festival will be held on the recreation ground, off Church Lane, on Saturday August 20.
Festival chairperson Margaret Alford said: “We’ll also welcome children’s entertainer Tom Foolery back to the festival as well as a falconry display and music from The Medina Marching Band.
“And in the evening we are delighted to welcome back to the festival the brilliant ‘Creative Covers’. This local band were firm favorite at the festival for many years and its fantastic to have them with us once again.
“Headlining the night is a chance to dust off your Blue Suede Shoes and Jailhouse Rock the night away with ‘Elvis Lives’.
“Of course we will also have our fantastic firework display at 10pm sponsored by Charles Muddle Ltd.
“We all look forward in seeing you all at the Festival in what we hope will be a fantastic day.”
Old favourite attractions will return, including the Harris Fun Fair, the Arun Vet Group’s fun dog show, car boot sale, flower show, car show, craft, charity and animal stalls and sideshows.
Food outlets include Thai, pizzas, jacket potatoes, crepes, burgers, hot dogs, doughnuts and ice cream. There will also be a licensed bar.
The Carnival procession starts at 1.30pm, lead by 2016 Carnival Princess Amber Loisy with her attendants Lois Comer and Isabelle Fraser and her pageboys Todd Geal and Oliver Fraser.
The Carnival will start in Foster Lane and travel via The Sands, Rectory Lane, London Road, and Church Lane.
Organisers are warning visitors that there will be no parking along one side of Foster Lane, The Sands, Rectory Lane and Church Lane. Road closures will be in place on Foster Lane from 12 noon until 2.30pm, the bottom of the Sands from 12pm to 4pm and the remainder of the route from 1.30pm to 2.30pm.
A free car park, kindly provided by Harris Fun Fair, will be available under the bridge at the bottom of the village. This will be signposted from both directions on the A24.
Disabled parking, for blue badge holders, will be available in the community centre car park in Foster Lane.
