First glimpse at 700-home development

Representatives from a consortium of house-builders outlined their plans for the first phase of the development at Maybridge Keystone Centre in The Strand.

The site has outline permission for building but full consent, which details the exact designs of the development, must be passed by Worthing Borough Council.

Residents came with a number of concerns, including devaluing of their properties, access and flooding.

But many said their fears were allayed by the representatives.

Patricia Simpkins, of Adur Avenue, said: “We knew the houses were coming but I was concerned about the height of the houses.

“I feel happier now I now I have seen the plans.”

Philip Justice, of Adelaide Close, added: “I was worried about flooding but they said the measures they will put in place are adequate to cope with a one in a thousand storm.

“I have known the land was down for building eventually so in some ways it has taken a long time for it to actually happen.”

The plans feature potential for a doctors’ surgery, community centre and school.

The development will be built by several companies, Taylor Wimpey, Persimmon Homes and Bovis Homes.
