The group will be taking part in this year’s Arundel Festival Bathtub Race and have just three weeks to complete their vessel.

Peter Thomas, manager of the High Street store, said: “Our staff enjoyed working with Crossroads Care South Central during the festival last year and they have been very keen to get their ideas in for this year’s theme for the bathtub.

“Sainsbury’s is celebrating 145 years of trading this year and one colleague thought it would be apt to adopt an age theme. Matt Lincoln, who works on the shop floor, put forward ‘Stone Age – shop and drop’.

“All ideas went into a voting system and this gained the most votes. The idea is to create a Flintstones-inspired vessel with cavemen and women at the helm. The process of creating something like this enables everyone at the store to get involved either with ideas, practical construction or sewing costumes.

“Friends and family will come along on the day to support the team and help with the collections for Crossroads Care South Central and the Arundel Festival. I would definitely recommend other companies to get involved as it great for team building and motivating staff. The race is also in the stunning setting of Arundel with the castle in the background – it made such a memorable day for many and some great photos to share back at the store.”

The race draws on one of the core values of the Arundel Festival – community spirit. Those spectators who lined the Arundel riverbank last year were testament to the love of this fun, quirky event despite the heavy downpour on the day.
