Flooding chaos keeping Worthing firefighters busy

FIREFIGHTERS have been working through the night to deal with flooding in Worthing and the surrounding areas.

West Sussex fire crews have been inundated with calls to properties, roads and motorists stuck in cars affected by flood water.

Worthing Hospital's post-graduate centre has been flooded by the torrential rain. Firefighters were this morning (Tuesday, February 10) still pumping the water from the basement of the building, which is to the back of the hospital.

The flooding at the hospital has also left all lifts in the east wing out of action. Volunteers are directing staff and patients to alternative lifts.

Homefield Park, in Homefield Road, has also been flooded with water swamping the grass.

Firefighters have also been pumping water from homes in Seafield Avenue, Goring, Gerald Road, Worthing and Ferringham Way, Ferring.

The county's fire service started receiving calls at around 6pm last night (Monday, February 9). They have so far responded to more than 150 emergency calls in areas including Worthing, Durrington, Chichester, Barnham, Littlehampton and Rustington.
