Flower festival celebrates Shakespeare

Christ Church in Worthing is marking the 400th anniversary of the death of Shakespeare with a flower festival.

Shakespeare in Bloom opened today, in aid of the Christ Church Restoration Fund.

Stunning, high-quality displays are on show around the church, with many contributions by the wider community.

Janine Hobbs, parish administrator, said the church had been very busy yesterday at the preview evening for invited guests.

She added: "The flower festival marks the 400th anniversary of the death of Shakespeare, and so all the arrangements, by many Worthing churches and organisations, are on the theme of different Shakespeare plays.

"There is also an arrangement sponsored by Rosemary Hensby Solicitors in memory of John Henry Akerman, former churchwarden of Christ Church and well-known solicitor in Worthing, who died last November. "

Christ Church is in Grafton Road, Worthing, but entrance is via Grosvenor Road. The festival is open until 5pm today then on Saturday 10am to 5pm and Sunday 1pm to 5pm. Entrance is £5, to include a detailed programme plus tea or coffee and cake.
