Ford Open Prison riot - latest
Several fires and criminal damage were reported at Ford Prison in the early hours of this morning (New Year's Day).
About 40 prisoners are thought to have set fire to two buildings, a gym complex and a portacabin, shortly after midnight. Windows of other prison buildings were smashed and fire alarms set off.
Specialist teams of prison officers were deployed to deal with the incident. There are no reports of any injuries to staff or prisoners.
West Sussex Fire and Rescue attended the scene shortly before 1am this morning.
Sussex Police are liaising with the Governor of Ford Prison and offering support and assistance.
