Former Littlehampton pub will become house

PLANS to convert a former Littlehampton riverside pub/restaurant into a private house have been approved by Arun District Council.

The premises in Surrey Street have had a chequered recent history, having been converted about a decade ago from the Cairo Club to a public house, the Robert Carver, named after a 19th century Littlehampton harbourmaster whose 200-year-old schoolbook was found in a wall cavity during restoration work.

The pub was closed within two years following a dispute between its owners, later reopening as the Lemon Tree, but went out of business again about three years ago.

Arun’s planning permission includes a new kitchen extension, repaved courtyard and new boathouse.
