The properties were targeted by police following a joint investigation with the Department for Work and Pensions and Worthing Borough Council in relation to benefit fraud and money laundering.

Further information was received from members of the community concerning drug offences.

Tackling crime

Detective sergeant Mark Williams, who led the operation, said: "After receiving intelligence from both members of the public and other organisations, police were quick to respond by targeting the addresses and arresting those that we believe are involved.

"By listening to what the community is telling us about crime in the area, we are able to respond swiftly and robustly, as was highlighted yesterday.

"It's our role to work with local people in tackling the crimes that they are most concerned about.

"If something is happening in your area then please pick up the phone and speak to police on 0845 6070999, or if you would rather pass information anonymously, then call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."

Distress

After the warrants were executed, police community support officers were in the area to answer questions.

"We don't want to cause any distress or alarm by police activity, and understandably those living in the area may have wondered what was happening," said DS Williams.
