Four-day sale at closed Methven's bookshop in Worthing

A POPULAR Worthing bookshop which suddenly closed last month has today (Thursday, April 2) reopened for a four-day sale.

Methven's in South Street was closed on Monday, March 23, after its parent company ArgentVive plc went into administration. Staff '“ eight full-time and four part-time '“ were called into a meeting and told the store was closing immediately and they had lost their jobs.

The sudden closure sent shockwaves through the town with customers calling it a "sad loss" and a "real shame for Worthing". Staff were especially upset as they were told they would not be getting paid.

But administrator, David Rubin and Partners, has insisted it is hopeful of finding a buyer for the store and is holding the sale to "showcase the bookstore to potential buyers".

A spokesman said: "The Worthing store will open on Thursday, April 2, for a four-day sale.

"If this proves successful, the store will then close and re-open the following Thursday (April 9] for a further three day sale and will be assessed on a weekly basis.

"All stock will be offered for sale at a 50 per cent discount. We are doing this in order to sell the stock and showcase the bookstore to potential buyers."
