The book, titled ‘Another Growing Up In Papua New Guinea’, forms an unintentional reprise of the classic Growing Up in New Guinea by the famous anthropologist Margaret Mead.
Chris said: “I didn’t realise that, eight years later, I would feel as if I and my children had grown up in New Guinea too.”

Hide AdChris and her family were in the country from 1978 - 1986, when Chris , a language teacher, followed her husband.
She said: “In January 1978 I was just a young woman with three small children and a settled life, unaware the forthcoming adventure would change me forever, giving me a new outlook on life and memories I would treasure.”
The book vividly brings her experiences to life and is bursting with colour and detail.
She provides great details of flora and fauna as well as the indigenous people, their rituals and way of life.

Hide AdThere are lots of great scenes contained in the book, not least when Chris casts local people as actors in a production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
Chris says: “It is a remarkable country. There have been many changes since then. The carefree young students I describe here are now influential adults who play a significant part in the country.
