Football fans will be in for a treat as a five-a-side tournament is planned for the Saturday, with 16 teams competing from the surrounding area.

The funfair will run throughout the weekend and on the Saturday there will be entertainment from three live bands, Fixed Wheel, Missy and Rip the Covers Off.

The beer tent will provide a steady stream of refreshments including a couple of local ales.

A variety of charities will be holding stalls this year, including Help for Heroes, the Lions Club –who will be supplying free tea and cake – and children’s cancer charity Freddy Smile.

Face painting, arts and crafts, a procession by Sompting Village Primary School, afternoon tea, a dog show and live arena events will all take place at the recreation ground over the course of the weekend.

More events including a wartime re-enactment and a display of historical pictures of the village will be held at the Harriet Johnson Centre in Loose Lane.

Festival organiser Chris Servante said: “We are expecting it to be a great weekend for the whole of Sompting.

“Any village needs to have a festival like this at least once a year to bring people together.”

A fire engine and an RNLI lifeboat will also be making an appearance.

Sompting Parish Councillor Sharon Wood, who helps to organise the event, said: “Come rain or shine, there will be fun for all age groups.”
