FOOTBALL legend Gary Lineker is set to visit Worthing Football Club tonight (June 22) to film a piece for Comic Relief.
The former England striker will stop by the Rebels’ home at Woodside Road, from 5pm until 7pm.
It’s part of a series of film events taking place across the town which Lineker will be starring in.
The news was broken on Worthing’s website earlier today.
A club spokesman said: “With all the positivity surrounding the club at the moment this is just another great event for the club and the town to shout about.
The Comic Relief production crew contacted the club’s majority shareholder, George Dowell, early last week about the plan.
Former striker Lineker, who now commentates for the BBC, will be put through his paces during a penalty shoot-out at the club.
On Worthing’s website, a spokesman said: “The plan is to get Gary in a dizzied state before stepping up to take a penalty.
“Come down to the Photronix Stadium and watch the England legend put some balls in the back of the net, in what promises to be a great evening. Everybody’s welcome, Don’t miss it.”
The news comes just days after the club launched work to install its new 3G playing surface.
Work to lay the artificial surface began last Friday (June 12) and is expected to be completed by early next month.
Comic Relief was launched in 1988 and has raised millions of pounds for needy people overseas and good causes in the UK.
